More lightning means more new wildfires in Fort Nelson region

As of this morning, there are 11 active fires in the Fort Nelson zone, with the largest new fire located approximately 85 kilometres northeast of Fort Nelson at around nine hectares large.

The largest fire in the region is still the Tsea Lakes fire 75 kilometres northeast of the city,, which remains 240 hectares in size. The Prince George Fire Centre has 61 firefighters and four helicopters working to contain that fire, and keep it from growing.

It’s expected fire activity will slow down over the next few days due to cooler conditions and rain showers. Drier conditions should return to the area heading into the long weekend.
