Golf Fore a Cure raises $5,000 for cancer research

Kelly Smeeth is the tournament coordinator for Golf Fore a Cure. She says the event is part of a national initiative inviting women to golf, while raising money for the cause.

“[The] Cancer Society has a goal of 15,000 participants this year and just over half a million dollars in donations for Golf Fore a Cure,” she states. “It was brought together with Golf Canada to support and promote women’s golf and support women’s cancer.”

Numbers were lower than expected for this year’s event with 29 golfers taking part. Smeeth is hoping for some changes to improve on the number of participants next year.

“Possibly going from a two day tournament to a Friday night, Saturday tournament, and opening the Saturday to couples,” she explains. “So having more of an event Friday night with a ladies tournament the Saturday.”
