Two injured after truck backs over tent near Tumbler Ridge

When trying to leave the recreational area, the female reportedly backed over the tent that had the mother, the three year old boy and another 18 month old boy sleeping inside.

The quick thinking of witnesses meant they were able to get the family out of the tent and rushed to the Tumbler Ridge Community Health Centre. The female is currently recovering in stable condition in hospital in Dawson Creek from serious bodily injuries, while the three year old received sutures for a laceration to his head. The infant was uninjured.

The female driver is now facing possible charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, with a court date set for July 18 in Tumbler Ridge. According to RCMP, the accused has been receiving violence and death threats over social media. As the investigation into the matter is ongoing, it advises that “such actions are more harmful than helpful to an investigation,” adding, “any threats of actual or perceived violence toward a person, animal, or damage to property will be investigated and could result in charges being pursued against the perpetrator of those threats.”
