They earned their spots as the top five students at the regional science fair in Fort St. John in April. They will join hundreds of other students from across the country in displaying their original research, which ranges from a robot that detects H2S to a study of drinking fountain contamination. They’ll compete for medals, cash awards, scholarships and other prizes.
Last year students from our region won silver and bronze medals, along with a number of scholarships. Kyle Plamondon, McPhail and Van Volkenburg all competed at last year’s competition in Charlottetown, with this being Van Volkenburg’s third time at nationals. She took home two silver medals in 2013, while McPhail won two bronze medals and $1,300 in prize money.
