New area code for B.C. coming June 1

236 joins 778, which was added in 2001, and 250, created in 1996 as a split of Vancouver’s 604.

Existing numbers do not need to be changed, and the three old B.C. area codes will still be used where there’s a sufficient supply remaining.

Three-digit numbers such as 211, 311, 411, 611 and 911 emergency services will not be affected.
