Dawson Creek to undergo municipal government performance audit

Dawson Creek is one of the local governments scoped for her planned audit on Learnings from Local Government Capital Procurement Projects and Asset Management Programs. Acting Mayor Charlie Parslow says he welcomes the audit, and the city has been supportive of the new Auditor General for Local Government position, which was introduced in January.

“The City of Dawson Creek is very proud of its efforts to ensure the community’s fiscal sustainability and to provide transparency around our financial processes,” he writes in a release. “The Auditor General for Local Government seeks to strengthen British Columbian’s confidence in their local government’s stewardship of public assets and the achievement of value for money in their operations.  We believe that our goals and objectives are closely aligned with those of the AGLG.”

The audits are scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2014. City staff have already been in contact with the AGLG’s office to discuss the timing and details of the audit.

Other communities will later be audited for their protection of drinking water, and dealing with the risks of having limited human resources in small governments.
