Things were looking good for the team at halftime. There was no score at the break, however a try in the second half put Dawson Creek out in front as they went on to win the game 5-0.

Coach Clayton Woodruff was happy with what he saw from his team, saying the players battled and were close on a few occasions when it came to tying the game.

“Our guys played really great today; it was a really close game,” Woodruff says. “We had at least three opportunities on the five yard line and just didn’t quite finish it. They got a good kick away and gained the field back and we just didn’t quite get it across the line, but it was anybody’s game.”

There were a number of improvements for the team throughout the game that were a focus in practice. Woodruff was glad to see the team bring those forward into the game.

“We didn’t get sucked into the rucks, which is something that we’ve been working on, and we stayed wide and we covered our man. We made some good tackles and I was really happy with that,” said Woodruff.

The team now moves on to a tournament in Vanderhoof over the weekend. Woodruff hopes the tournament gives the players the experience to learn more about the game.

“I mostly don’t want any injuries. I want my kids to go down there and have a good time, and enjoy tournament rugby for what it’s worth and learn more about the game,” he explains.

The team concludes its regular season on Tuesday.
