Team Peace Region off to Skills Canada Provincials

The students earned their way to provincials by earning gold in their respective divisions at the 2013 Skills Canada Peace Region Competition in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John in March, or were nominated by instructors.

“This is a very talented team of students that will be representing the Peace Region,” said Jamie Maxwell, Skills Canada coordinator for the Peace Region.

On April 17, the team will compete against students from across the country in events like building spaghetti bridges, carpentry and hairdressing.

Those who earn a gold medal at the provincials will have the chance to take part in the Canadian Skills Competition held in Vancouver at B.C. Place Stadium from June 5 to 8. The Peace Region has had several provincial gold medallists in the past, most recently Andrew Lines for Aircraft Maintenance in 2011, who went on to earn a silver at nationals. In 1999 Tyler Marion made it all the way to Worlds for carpentry.
