“All the funds that get raised through the Cops for Cancer program go in support of pediatric cancer prevention and treatment, in particular Camp Goodtimes,” explains Inspector Pat Egan, “so it’s a very worthwhile cause.”
Last year’s Tour de North raised over $250,000.
The 2013 Tour will kick off in Dawson Creek, stopping in Fort St. John, Hudson’s Hope, Chetwynd, and Mackenzie on its way to Williams Lake. In addition to the Cops for Cancer Jail N’ Bail, which will likely be held in late August or early September, this year a regimental dinner will also be held as a major fundraiser.
On July 12, the day after the RCMP Musical Ride is in town, the 2013 Fort St. John RCMP Regimental Dining-In and Comedy Night in Support of Cops for Cancer will be held at the Pomeroy Hotel.
“Since the Musical Ride was coming at this time, there’s going to be a lot of people coming from other communities to Fort St. John,” says Corporal Jodi Shelkie, “we thought we’d have it the next day.”
The event will follow formal RCMP regimental dinner traditions, including a grand march. The event is open to the public, and the $75 tickets will go on sale soon.
“It promises to be a very exciting summer,” adds Inspector Egan.
