Drug charges recommended in basement explosion

A search warrant later executed in the residence in the 9100 block of 97 Avenue turned up drug related items, including several pounds of marijuana, a firearm, cocaine, and equipment for the making of hash oil.

Fort St. John RCMP has now determined the explosion was caused by the male cooking hash oil, which includes the use of compressed gas in a confined space. He suffered second degree burns to his arms and abdomen as a result and remains in hospital.

The 28 year old female in the house at the time did not suffer any injuries, but the blast that occurred around 6:30 p.m. caused extensive damage to the building.
