Injured Dawson Creek snowmobiler rescued north of Powder King

The 24 year old male from Dawson Creek said he had jumped off a 60 foot drop without realizing how far it was until too late. He landed on a snow covered rock and was thrown off of his snowmobile, seriously injuring his back.

The group activated a GPS beacon around 1:45 p.m. and after communication with the Emergency Response Centre, RCMP located their vehicles near Azouzetta Lake and Search and Rescue and a chartered helicopter from Prince George were deployed to the area. The helicopter landed around 6 p.m. and the injured male was airlifted to Mackenzie Hospital.

He suffered a compression fracture of the vertebrae but is expected to make a full recovery.
