Game one hit Grande Prairie ice Friday, where the hometown Sherpa Safety Storm jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead following one period of play.
Down three entering the second, Wyatt Gale found his offensive touch, scoring the Trackers’ only two goals of the period, one of which on the power-play, while Grande Prairie managed to find the back of the net just once in the second.
With the third period beginning with Grande Prairie leading 4-2, two goals scored by the Trackers, including one by Wyatt Gale to complete his hat-trick, wasn’t enough as the home team added three goals in the final frame, completing the game with the scoreboard reading 7-4 for Grande Prairie.
One of those three third period goals was scored by Sam Bosek, who along with Gale, also recorded a hat-trick during game one.
Game two hit the ice of Dawson Creek the following day, and was a must win for the Trackers.
Unfortunately, game two produced just one goal for the Trackers, who scored their lone goal of the game at 8:41 into the first, compared to the six goals scored by Grande Prairie throughout three periods of hockey, with the game-winner scored on the power-play with 9:34 left in the first period.
The back-to-back weekend losses marked the end of the 2013 postseason for the NE B.C. & Yukon District Trackers, who last claimed an NAMHL championship in 2011.
