New oil and gas regulations in final stages

Rules are already in place for the transportation and coal-fired electricity industries, but they only get Canada halfway to that goal.

Peter Kent tells a House of Commons committee his objective is for the regulations on the oil and gas industries to help close the gap.

He says the regulations, in the works since 2011, have been delayed by a desire to craft a plan that won't require substantial changes after public consultation.

Kent says that process is now in its final stages.
