If that sounds familiar, it's because the same thing happened on February 27 around 6:20 p.m. Police were unable to catch a suspect that time, but later had a person of interest in custody.
However, this time a customer grabbed a gun the suspect left unattended. The masked man ran from the store, but was tackled by a customer and held until police arrived. The 49 year old Dawson Creek resident is now in RCMP custody pending his bail hearing.
Police have not confirmed whether the two incidents are connected.
While public assistance has been instrumental in solving some of the several robberies in the area over the past month, Dawson Creek RCMP Sergeant Scott West warns that they may be placing themselves in danger.
"When one considers becoming involved in apprehending a person involved in a robbery or other criminal acts please be aware that these criminal acts are perpetrated by a desperate individual or individuals with weapons," he says. "Please, make no mistake that you are placing yourself at serious risk of harm."
