Local man among guide outfitters issued stiff fines

Omenica Zone Conservation Office spokesman Tracy Walbauer says the 42 violations investigated include guiding without licences, and hunting out of season. The investigation was launched in 2010 with information from a First Nations group north of Mackenzie.

Upper Stikine River Adventures has been fined nearly $40,000, while Berge must pay $35,000 and Geraci $10,000. Other guides employed by the company have also been fined $3,000 each.

At least $16,000 of the total fine must be paid to the Habitat Conservation Trust Fund.
