GPS leads cops to stolen property near Fort St. John

The backhoe had been stolen from Grande Prairie on Thursday, January 31. RCMP Corporal Jodi Shelkie says it was GPS technology in the equipment that led them to that spot.

"GPS technology is becoming prevalent in vehicles, heavy equipment and machinery," she explains. "Often within hours, if not minutes, of a piece of equipment being stolen, it can be tracked to its exact location.  It's a wonderful tool for the police and a great deterrent for criminals."

The person associated with the property has been questioned and the thefts are currently under investigation.
