The breakdown of this season’s events will include 23 time trials, 10 Cyclo cross races, 24 mountain bike races, 5 duathlons, 1 triathlon, 2 hill climbs as well as 20 massed start road events.
Also taking place will be the long distance Randonneur series, which will be made up of 11 events.
Local cyclists will also be competing in a variety of regional, provincial and national events such as an Ironman Challenge, Stony Plain and Calgary Half Ironman and Grandfondo’s, being held in Penticton as well as in Kelowna.
The first race of the season will hit the roads March 3 with a challenging early season Baldonnel road race, followed by the tough winter Roubaix race series, with the final club event being raced October 28.
Rides with Blizzard Bike Club coaches will begin in June, and will include 10 weekly sessions. Winter turbo training will also continue twice a week until the conclusion of March.
Due to the expansion of the Club’s mountain bike races to 24 events on the Beatton Cactus Circuit, there will also be a four hour mountain bike race called “Cactus Death,” being raced on June 16, which will really put riders’ endurance to the test.
Club triathletes will also be participating in the regional short distance triathlon series, as well as the Ironman and Challenge events. Members can also practice their triathlon skills with the five event duathlon, run-bike-run series, a good way to begin training for a triathlon.
The Blizzard Bike Club provides participants a fun and challenging way to get into shape or stay fit, and only costs an annual fee of $50.
