Sharon Ohland, Fort St. John area Zone Leader for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, claims that heart disease and stroke take one life every seven minutes and 90 per cent of Canadians have at least one risk factor.
“Our hearts and bodies are fragile, and no one is safe from the effects of heart disease and stroke, yet there is so much we can do to protect them,” she explains. “This is why it is so critical that we rally together in raising funds for life-giving research that can help extend the lives of all Canadians.”
During this month a door-to-door campaign is held by volunteers, who canvas the neighbourhood to collect donations, as well as provide information about heart disease.
Citizens are also urged to take this month to think about their own heart health.
