Fort St. John’s two-game weekend starts off Friday evening in town, when the Senior Flyers play host to the NPHL’s West Division’s top team, the Grande Prairie Athletics.
Tomorrow evening’s game will be the fourth meeting between the Athletics and Flyers, with Fort St. John looking to even up the season series, which Grande Prairie leads two games to one.
Fort St. John began their season versus Grande Prairie back on October 27, handing the Athletics a 5-1 loss to kick off their season. Since then, the Senior Flyers have been unable to defeat the Athletics, losing 6-3 at home on November 17, then most recently, losing 5-3 in Grande Prairie on December 13.
Shifting our focus to Saturday evening’s game, the Senior Flyers will hit the road with Spirit River set on the GPS.
The Senior Flyers aren’t as familiar with their Saturday evening opponent, as Fort St. John has only tangoed with the Rangers twice this year, a team that sits second in the West Division standings.
The two teams engaged in a home-and-home series, which began on November 24, when the Senior Flyers were in Spirit River, suffering an 8-6 road loss to the Rangers.
Fort St. John returned that favour December 5, when they hosted the second and final game of the home-and-home, defeating the Rangers 5-3.
Much like their previous meeting, this weekend’s game versus Spirit River is another home-and-home series, which will conclude in Fort St. John on Friday, February 1.
The Flyers enter the weekend riding a three game winning streak, with their latest victory being an intense 6-5 overtime victory over Dawson Creek, when Luke Middleton sealed the game with a short-handed overtime goal.
Friday’s game at the North Peace Arena begins at 8:30 p.m.
