Northern Health lists several ways to help prevent the spread of illness within the general community, as well as health facilities. Tips to consider include staying home if in the early stages of an illness, not returning to work or school until symptom free, and to carefully wash hands often and well.
Dr. David Bowering, Northern Health’s acting Chief Medical Health Officer says it is important for individuals to take the above precautions to avoid the spreading of unnecessary germs.
"These illnesses are circulating in the general community, increasing the likelihood that long-term care residents, hospital patients and staff in some medical facilities will come down with contagious virus at some point. We need the help of visitors to these facilities in limiting the spread of these illnesses."
Northern Health also says it will advise the public of any significant outbreaks within the community if they do occur, and the suggested measures needed to be taken in certain health related circumstances.
