Input sought on Sukunka Coal Project

The open pit and underground coal mine would be located approximately 55 kilometres south of Chetwynd and 40 kilometres west of Tumbler Ridge. Xstrata, the largest exporter of coal for power stations, says it would eventually produce 6 million tonnes of washed coal per year, to be transported by tail to Prince Rupert for shipment overseas. Its expected life would be over 20 years.

If it is determined that a federal environmental assessment is required, there will be three more opportunities for the public to comment.
