In the tournament’s SunLife Financial Competitive Division, Team Pomeroy Inn & Suites, made up of Sexsmith Curling Club’s skip Kurt Balderston, third Les Sonnenberg, second Rob Maksymetz and lead Del Shaughnessy, won their second tour event of the season.

The Sexsmith team defeated Dawson Creek curlers including skip Jordan Steinke, third Jason Ginter, second Tristan Steinke and lead Brett Winfield by a final score of 3-1.

It was a comeback victory for the Sexsmith team, who went down early after team Steinke opened the game with a 1-0 lead in the first end. However, back-to-back points in the third and fourth ends, followed by a final point in the sixth, propelled team Balderston to the 3-1 victory.

In the tournament’s EnCana Challenge Division, two junior teams squared off for the top spot, with Team Tourcotte, made up of skip Darren Tourcotte, third Jean Brochu, second Evan Limoges and lead Jacques Brochu of the Falher Curling Club, used the hammer to their advantage to defeat Team Hendricks, comprised of skip Kellie Hendricks, third Kathleen Dunbar, second Crystal Chabot and lead Cheyanne Richars of Grande Prairie.

In a very close match, Team Tourcotte defeated Team Hendricks 6-5, which began with Team Hendricks jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead after scoring a single point in the first, second and third ends.

That lead was erased thanks to productive fourth and fifth ends, when the club from Fahler scored two, then one respectively, tying the game at 3-3 entering the sixth end.

The team from Grande Prairie retook their lead in the sixth thanks to a two-goal end, but unfortunately, the lead didn’t last. Team Turcotte scored twice in the seventh, and used the hammer to their advantage in the eighth and final end, scoring the game winning point to emerge victorious by a final score of 6-5.

The Peace Curling Tour consists of the three major cash spiels in the Peace Region, with the next event scheduled for November 23-25, and will be played in Dawson Creek.
