There was a wreath presentation at the cenotaph, and then the last post was played, followed by a moment of silence, and the singing of O Canada.
Everyone then proceeded into the Legion where numerous rooms has been set up with chairs to accommodate all those attending, but once again, so many people showed up that many were still left standing. The service began with the flag bearers being piped in, and included speeches from Deb Vanderheyden, Mayor Lori Ackerman and MLA Pat Pimm. The consistent message conveyed through all speeches was that we should not take the freedom that was fought, and continues to be fought for, for granted.
All Veterans in attendance were asked to rise, and were greeted with a large round of applause. There was then a wreath laying ceremony, when many local individuals and companies laid wreaths in remembrance, thanks and respect. Once all wreaths were laid, everyone joined together and sang Amazing Grace. The pipers then returned to pipe the flag bearers out and conclude the ceremony.
The rest of the day included horse races and a turkey shoot, as well as a dinner and dance to wrap up the holiday.
