Ball suffered extreme brain damage when he was beaten on the corner of 100th and 100th at 2:43 a.m. on July 22. He later died when he was taken off life support on August 2.

William Ted Metcalfe, who was not present for the proceeding, and Joel Christopher Marchand, who appeared via video from prison in Prince George, both still face charges of assault causing bodily harm and aggravated assault, despite Ball’s death.

Crown needed the autopsy report before it could determine whether the charges should be upgraded. Crown’s application for a delay to review the new evidence was approved, and the case will next be in court on December 5.
