In less than two hours the walls of the building started to collapse. Fire Fighters from Dawson Creek and Pouce Coupe tried to stop the fire from spreading to near-by buildings, but the fire was to much. Brass Scissor’s Hair Salon, located next to the hotel, also burnt to the ground.
At this time the RCMP believe no one was injured in the fire and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
In April of last year, another major fire hit that same block destroying the Wildcat Video Store. After Friday’s fire, only one building remains on that block.
The Alaska Hotel was built more than 75 years ago and many Dawson Creek Residents are shocked that the famous hotel is now gone.
