In helping to celebrate the grand opening of the unique gym, a local fitness trainer will be in attendance, conducting a circuit training workout demonstration using the new equipment.
The new accumulation of outdoor fitness equipment is located along the walking trail by Kin Park, as part of encouraging physical activity among residents of Fort St. John.
The facility is free of charge to use and will be open year around for anyone interested to enjoy the freedom of working out in the great outdoors. All the equipment is weatherproof, and focuses on using a person’s own body weight as resistance rather than traditional free-weight workouts.
The entire outdoor gym is on top of a matted surface to provide additional safety for the Green Gym users, with the flooring being environmentally friendly, as it is made up of 100 per cent recycled British Columbian tires.
The recycled tire portion of the new gym was funded by a grant from the B.C. Tire Stewardship, while the Northern Environmental Action Team helped in sourcing the recycled tires.
The grand opening demonstration will be taking place from 10-11 a.m.
