Forums were held in Dawson Creek and Chetwynd earlier this week. Students, parents, teachers and community members are all invited to take part, and give their input on new requirements for graduation.

The session in Fort St. John will take place on Wednesday, October 3 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the North Peace Cultural Centre. To register, contact Jan Strandlund at or 250-262-6017 by Monday, October 1.

The following five questions will be discussed in groups:

Question #1:  

What do you think are the core or essential things all students should know, understand and be able to do by the time they leave secondary school?

Question #2:

Beyond the core, how could pathways for choice or exploration be provided?

Question #3:

Research is underway with a focus on the following five cross-curricular competencies (in development):

i)      Communication

ii)     Critical Thinking

iii)   Creative Thinking and Innovation

iv)    Personal Responsibility and Well-Being

v)     Social Responsibility

How do you think students could demonstrate these competencies?

How could student learning be communicated to:

a)     Students

How would you design an awards program to recognize student success in a personalized learning environment?
