A fire guard was constructed by bulldozers late last night, and the Tomslake Fire Department is currently patrolling the area. A number of old brush piles are still smoldering within the fire guard. In addition to local volunteers firefighters from the Tomslake Fire Department, a fire crew from B.C. Forest Service helped out, along with mutual aid from Pouce Coupe and Alberta.
The fire currently stands at 15 hectares, and at one point grew to 20 hectares. Two homes near the Sudeten Provincial Park were ordered evacuated late last night out of concern, but that order was rescinded this morning.
Prince George Fire Centre Information Officer Jillian Chimko says there is an extreme fire danger rating in the Peace Region, which recently resulted in the implementation of another open fires and fireworks ban. There has only been a trace of rain officially recorded this month at the local airport weather station, and less than three millimetres since the 14th of last month.
