Prior to the start of competition, Hedges said he was very excited for this match because of the intense atmosphere of playing in front of a home crowd.

Well, the Canadians seemed to thrive in that environment, coming out and scoring 20 points in the opening quarter, ending the first quarter leading 20-11.

It was all Canada following the opening quarter, as team red and white never surrendered the lead, with their most dominant quarter being the third where they outscored Great Britain 18-7.

The game showed the world that Canada is a force to be reckoned with. They displayed a strong transition game, making smart decisions with the ball and crisp passes to one another.

It was the Canadians’ smart ball movement that helped them maintain the lead for the majority of the match.

Fort St. John’s Bo Hedges saw 26:30 minutes of floor time during Canada’s second preliminary game, finishing with two points, three assists, an offensive rebound, and two defensive rebounds.

For the second game in a row, Chris Anderson emerged as Team Canada’s leading scorer. He finished as the game’s top scorer with 29 points, the top distributor of the ball with 10 assists and the top rebounder with 14.

Anderson also padded his stat line with one blocked shot, three steals and forcing a turnover, while playing 34:57 minutes of ball.

As a team, Canada shot the ball 44 at per cent (27/61) for two-pointers, drained their only three point shot, and were 68 per cent from the free-throw line (13/19).

The Canadians will continue to work their way through Group B’s Wheelchair Basketball preliminary round Saturday, September 1, when they take to the hardwood against Poland.

With today’s victory over Great Britain, Canada remains undefeated with a 2-0 record.
