According to witnesses, a Caucasian male made a lewd comment about one of the females in group of individuals in the lower hot spring pools, which resulted in an argument. The male, who was unknown to the group, left only to return an hour late with a knife. He then stabbed two of the men in the group and fled the scene.

The two victims were taken via private vehicle to Fort Nelson, where they were met by an ambulance on the highway and transported to the Fort Nelson General Hospital. Both suffered serious but non-life threatening stab wounds.

Based on descriptions from witnesses, Northern Rockies RCMP were able to identify the suspect, as well as a second male and a vehicle used to leave the scene. Approximately six hours later, the two Fort Nelson men were located and arrested. One suspect was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and the second male was charged as party to the offence. Both have since been released from police custody, and will appear in court on September 24, 2012.

The hot springs and board walk were closed for approximately 10 hours while RCMP conducted its investigation.
