Speaking at a grain farm in Cecil Lake today, MP Bob Zimmer says western Canadian grain farmers finally have marketing freedom.

“Farmers know how to run their own businesses, and with the support of the Harper Government, they now have the freedom to do so,” he said. “Our farmers can finally choose how they market their own crops.”

That legislation allows farmers and agri-businesses to enter contracts for the private delivery of grain starting August 1, while maintaining the Wheat Board as a voluntary grain pooling option that will be transitioned into private ownership over the next five years.

The push for more marketing options was supported nationally by organizations such as the Grain Growers of Canada, and in the B.C. Peace Region, has been endorsed by the B.C. Grain Producers Association.
