A semi-truck travelling the opposite direction also sustained damage, but Sergeant Scott West says it’s unclear from the report whether it was hit by the pickup or by the moose as well. The pickup subsequently caught on fire on the side of the road, and the semi-truck sustained serious damage to its cab.

West says everyone was able to get out of their cars safely, although two people were treated for minor injuries. The moose was not so lucky and died as a result of the collision.

The road was closed for a short amount of time to clean up after the collisions.
