Parties interested in conducting the study have until August 10, 2012 to submit their bid for the contract.

Phase two will evaluate all of the concerns that were compiled during the first public and stakeholder engagement phase. It will focus on issues brought up that could have a direct health impact due to the oil and gas industry. It will also look into impacts to air, water, land and food quality and whether or not there are contaminants created as a result of oil and gas activities.

The report from phase 1, conducted by the Fraser Basin Council, identified seven categories of concern, including personal health issues, environmental pathways of exposure, related environmental issues, changes to community, community service issues, oil and gas operational issues, and institutional framework issues.

At the end of phase 2, a report will be compiled that will identify what regulations and policies are missing or insufficient in to address human health risks in the Peace Region, as well as recommend any necessary changes to data monitoring in the area. The successful proponent will have a budget of $700,000 to $900,000 to complete the phase.
