The 31-year old male was reportedly driving fast northbound in his 2012 CANAM 1000 side by side, when witnesses say he hit a dip in the trail and became airborne, unable to control the vehicle. It then collided with several trees, and flipped over, ejecting the driver as he was not wearing the equipped seatbelt.
As he was not wearing any safety equipment, he suffered a broken pelvis and concussion, and was transported to the Tumbler Ridge Medical Clinic. In addition to his injuries, he has been given a fine for $115, and been charged under the Motor Vehicle All Terrain Act for Careless Operation.
RCMP remind ATV users that driving over the speed limit or dangerously will result in charges.
