Although one male complied when the Dawson Creek RCMP members asked them over loud hailer to put down their weapons, the other two fled with one of the rifles in a pickup truck. Because of the danger of the firearms, and the possibility of it being prohibited, the area was contained.

The suspects’ vehicle was found nearby on a bush trail, along with 1,400 rounds of ammunition. The two males and the second assault rifle were found shortly after, and the three men were arrested. Both rifles had prohibited magazines able to carry 25 rounds, including one which had been purchased only an hour prior and had two of its four magazines prohibited in that time.

The 34 year old male who complied with police orders now faces charges of possession of a prohibited device. The 26 and 28 year old men who fled face the same charge, as well as charges of flight from police and obstruction of justice. The 28 year old also faces a charge of possession of a firearm without holding a valid licence and police are also recommending an additional charge of possession of a weapon contrary to order against him.

RCMP say all three males had been drinking prior to their arrest.
