The two have different styles of comedy that somehow end up complimenting each other. Belford has a high energy performance, telling stories of growing up in Canada, while Australian Dempsey’s show is a little darker and cheeky.

They have been touring together for three years now, after Dempsey moved to Canada, and have chosen Fort St. John and the Lido Theatre to film their DVD. Dempsey says the Lido’s reputation precedes itself.

“We’ve heard how incredible the venue was, how great the crowds were, how it was pretty much one of the best chances we’re going to have to record a DVD of that quality,” he says. “The comedians rave about it.”

As the two will only have one chance to film their show, they hope the crowd will show up excited to take part, and a little louder than usual. Hecklers need not attend.

“We’ll just be asking the audience to give it a bit more maybe than they usually would, maybe act like we’re stars,” he jokes. “If they give us a chance they probably will (laugh).”

The Lido’s Comedy Detour runs Friday and Saturday starting at 8:00, with the DVD filming on Saturday. The event is adult only, due to coarse language.

Tickets are $15 in advance, available at Systems By Trail and the Lido, or $25 at the door. Reservations of 4 or more are $20. For more information, please call The Lido @ 250-785-3011
