Two passengers, a 26 year old male and a 19 year old female, were not wearing seatbelts, and were ejected from the vehicle. They sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries, and were released from hospital later that morning.
The driver, Alfred Guy McLeod, fled the scene, but was later found unconscious inside Peace Island Regional Park by RCMP Police Dog Services. He was taken to hospital for minor injuries and later released into police custody.
McLeod was already awaiting trial for an unrelated Unlawful Confinement and Assault investigation, next scheduled to be in court on September 7, 2012. As he had previously been released on bail, he has now been charged with Breach of Recognizance.
The single vehicle collision is still under investigation, with alcohol believed to be a factor.
