A Ford Flanger pickup was traveling northbound when a southbound Ford Focus pulled out to pass a commercial vehicle causing a head on collision with the pickup. The two occupants of the car, a 22-year old male from Alaska and 27-year old male from Oklahoma, were found deceased at the scene.

The 21-year old male driver of the pickup, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. While waiting for police and B.C. Ambulance to attend the scene, a vacationing doctor, a couple of first aid medics from Buckinghorse and witnesses took care of the injured male. The driver, who was in the process of moving to Fort Nelson, was then taken by helicopter to the Fort St. John hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

The investigation is currently ongoing. It’s believed speed and driver inattentiveness were factors in this collision.

RCMP are taking this opportunity to remind drivers to use extreme caution when passing vehicles and to plan ahead in order to have enough time to reach their destinations while travelling at the posted speed limit.
