A resident had been drying meat when high winds picked up the contained fire, spreading it through her trailer, a neighboring trailer, sheds, and a pump house. The fire eventually burned through an area of grass and trees killed by pine beetles, heading up Wabi Mountain and threatening nearby cellphone and radio towers.

Due to the size of the fire, helicopters and water bombers were used to prevent the spread of the fire, while firefighters worked on the burning trailers. The operation took over 7 hours, eventually extinguishing the fire, but leaving considerable damage.

The resident, her husband and their pet corn snake and cat were all rescued and suffered no injuries.
