“Trades expansion is an integral part of our growth in Northern BC and we are proud to continue to lead the way in trades training for the province,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure and Peace River South MLA Blair Lekstrom. “This funding reflects government’s recognition of the key role that trades education and skills training plays in continuing to open up opportunities for the men and women who choose a trades career.”
It will be up to NLC to decide specifically how to apply the funding for training, by working with industry and business sectors to address regional labour market needs.
The government expects there to be one million job openings over the next decade, and hopes these types of investments will help fill those jobs.
A representative from NLC was not immediately available for comment.
