The tournament began Friday, with the local club defeating Prince George 1-0, thanks to the lone goal kicked in by Cam Close.
Saturday, the team faced some adversary, suffering an unfortunate 4-1 loss to another Prince George team, with Paul Greschner scoring the only goal for the Northern Strikers.
The loss seemed to motivate the boys, who came out as a team on a mission their following game, beating host Quesnel 3-1. Close and Greschner each scored in the victory, along with Ty Hollingshead.
It was a big win for the team, as the victory earned them a spot in the gold medal game, to face non other than the Prince George team that handed the Northern Strikers their only defeat of the tournament.
It was a different story in the gold medal re-match, as the taste of defeat seemed to motivated the Northern Strikers. The team played exceptionally well, earning a gold-medal shut out in the process and winning by a score of 4-0.
Along with the forwards and defence, the Northern Striker’s goalies, Sam Barrette and Gage Atkins both had stellar performances in the gold-medal-winning tournament.
