Dozens of local swimmers hit the water over the weekend in both long and short distances, with a total of 223 medals handed out (101 gold, 77 silver and 45 bronze), along with 194 personal best times, 34 new provincial times and 56 first-time swims.
Inconnu members also set 11 new club time records.
Some highlights from the weekend meet include Hanna Hofstrand sweeping all five swimming categories (50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 50 back and 100 back) in the Girls 8 & Under division, as well as a couple new national age times.
Skyeler Kerr set a new national age time in the 13 Years Boys, 1500 Free category, with a time of 18:21:01, while Cale Murdock also set a new national age time in the 13 & Over boys division’s 100 Back, with a time of 1:06:39, which was also a new best time for the swimmer.
Despite swimmers only competing against their fellow Inconnu Swim Club members, the results are significant, especially for the older swimmers, as it provided them a chance to increase their personal rankings as some prepare for nationals this summer.
Next up on the docket for the Inconnu Swim Club will be the club’s annual Swim-a-thon, where community members can make pledge on a swimmer in order to help raise money for the club’s pool costs, as well as travel fees, as the club prepares to head to nationals.
A portion of the money raised will also go towards the national swimming program, something that all nation-wide swimming clubs are mandated to participate in as part of Swimming Canada.
Athletes will have to work for their donations, as club members will have to swim for either two hours straight, or until 200 laps have been completed as part of the fundraiser.
