The ranking is based on a number of categories, such as Walk/Bike to work, where Fort St. John ranked 86th, Average Housing Price, in which the Energetic City ranked 121st, and received a ranking of 38th in Household Income. According to the statistics provided, the average price of homes in Fort St. John was listed at $299,700.

Unlike Fort St. John, Dawson Creek saw improvements in their 2012 rankings, jumping from 103rd in 2011 to a current ranking of 89th. One area the city specifically jumped was in its rankings of Average House Price, improving from 72nd to 83rd.
