Recognizing the incredible opportunity a Sport Wall of Fame Project could have for the community, staff has began working with top consultants to assist in turning the idea into a reality.
The project will include a variety of visual displays celebrating a variety of topics regarding Fort St. John, such as the community, sporting events and athletes, as well as athletic achievements. For example, the west wall of the facility will contain a full wall-sized mural depicting the spirit within the PSC. The lobby of the facility will be the centerpiece of the project, and will include the “Wall” of fame, which will be seen as a Celebration/Heritage Centre allowing interactive access to the celebratory stories, events, peoples and teams within the community.
Further, it will act as a celebration of the City’s community volunteers, numerous sporting achievements and the Energetic City as a whole.
Through the creative design process, the following overall project goals were laid out. The project will be a celebration of the community, sports, and achievements, will be a lasting legacy and will tell the story of the Energetic City and its residents.
All necessary expenses for the project will be taken from the Sponsorship revenues received for the Pomeroy Sport Centre. As of now, $250,000 has been placed in the capital budget for the overall project. An additional $35,000 has been allocated in the Operating Budget to begin the process of story collection and the collecting of photos/graphics to fill the walls.
The project is estimated at costing approximately $42,500 plus travel costs of consultants and shop drawing if required.
