The Fort St. John RCMP were called to the scene of the collision at approximately 6:30 pm near Finning. The RCMP investigation revealed that a south bound Ford Expedition had crossed the centre line of the highway for a unknown reason colliding with an unloaded north bound tanker truck.
The driver of the Ford, a 51 year-old female resident of Fort St. John, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transport to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the semi was not injured.
The Alaska Highway was closed to traffic in both directions while police investigated the cause of the collision. The RCMP believe alcohol was a contributing factor but at this time no charges have been laid.
The RCMP will provide more updates as information can be released.
