This follows the regulations laid out in the Charlie Lake Fire Protection Transition Implementation Plan, created after an external review of the department. All staff must be hired by the PRRD.
Current Fire Chief, Allan Pinkerton, is eligible to apply.
The review also suggested the hire of an additional paid member in the position of Assistant Fire Chief/Training Officer. These changes come after a public meeting in which residents indicated they wanted the Regional District to take more control of the department, after a budget increase was denied in March 2011.
In an online job posting, the PRRD describes its ideal Fire Chief as a “forward thinker” who possesses “strong interpersonal and leadership skills” and “excels at building effective working relationships with volunteers, the general public, elected officials, Regional District staff and mutual aid partners.” Candidates must have a minimum of five years experience as Fire Captain or higher, as well as all the necessary qualifications. The last date for applications will be February 13, 2012.
