Those difference makers will pass the Rick Hansen Medal as part of a relay of 7,000 people across the country. They will also receive a replica medal for themselves.
A difference maker is defined as someone who is creating a more inclusive world by removing physical and social barriers to create more accessible communities. They may also be someone who leads and encourages others to live a healthy and active lifestyle through sport, injury prevention, or involvement in medical research for new innovations.
Twenty-five years after his historic tour across Canada, Rick Hansen is retracing his route with a relay of people who have made a difference in the lives of others passing his Medal. As Hansen missed Fort St. John as part of his original tour after advised not to make the tough trip, the city has been designated as a Community Celebration site.
To nominate a Difference Maker, download a nomination form at www.fortstjohn.ca or pick up a printed copy at City Hall, the Fort St. John Visitor Centre, North Peace Leisure Pool, or the Pomeroy Sport Centre.
The Many In Motion Community Celebration will take place March 21, 2012 at the Pomeroy Hotel from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. where the difference makers will be recognized. This event will be open to the public, with all ages welcome. Doors open at 6:30 and refreshments will be served.
