The group has received numerous awards and accolades for their musical endeavours. In 2004, the band assembled at the CBC studios, recording what is credited as being the greatest recording ever to come out of the already talented African music scene in Canada.
The debut CD earned the band a Juno Award, as World Music Album of the Year at the 2005 Juno Awards. Their second album, “African Guitar Summit II”, earned them another Juno nomination in that same category.
The CD charted in the top ten most downloaded albums for a period of time on iTunes’ Today’s Top Album Chart, as well as in the top 20 of the World Music Charts.
The band has also had the honour of sharing the stage with some high profile musicians, from Neil Young, Brian Adams, Motley Crue, Gordon Lightfoot, Deep Purple and Run DMC to name just a few.
The show, which has been selling out venues all across Canada, will be a privilege for the Energetic City, as their visit to Fort St. John is the group’s only show in the north.
The event will also be feature a pre-show drumming performance by Fort St. John’s Pan African Group. As well, Visions of Change, a group of 38 North Peace Secondary High School students will be on hand to discuss their spring trip to Ghana and the work they will be doing in two orphanages while there.
The show will begin at 7:30 p.m., with the box office, café and bar opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Cultural Centre, online, or by phone at 250-785-1992.
Tickets cost $40.00 for an adult, $35.00 for seniors and youth, and $25 for 12 and under. Special group discounts are also available by calling the Cultural Centre.
