In November, the rate was at 3.4 per cent and now B.C. Stats can’t come up with an accurate percentage because the number of unemployed people in Northeast B.C. is just that low.

In November, 36,500 people were employed and that number grew to 37,700 people in December.

At the beginning of 2011, the unemployment rate was 4.9 per cent.  The last time the unemployment level was this low was in 2007 and 2006.

As for the rest of the province, the unemployment rate stayed steady at 7.0 per cent in December. 

Statistics Canada says 17,500 jobs were created in Canada during the month of December but the unemployment rate across the country rose to 7.5 per cent from 7.4 in November.
