Mark Hartigan, a former resident of the Energetic City, will sport the maple leaf on his chest as part of Team Canada’s quest for our country’s 12 Spengler Cup Championship.
Hartigan, a defensemen for the red and white, is no stranger to high-level competitive hockey, as he has been on multiple NHL teams, including the Atlanta Thrashers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings and was even a member of the Anaheim Ducks when they won the Stanley Cup in 2007.
This year’s bench boss will be former NHL and Vancouver Canuck coach Marc Crawford.
Canada will open their tournament on Dec. 26 against HC Vitkovice.
Team Canada is comprised of Canadian hockey players playing in Europe. Currently, Hartigan plays for Rapperswil-Jona of the Swiss A league.
